There was a great turnout from my gaming group on Friday for a big multi-player game of Muskets & Tomahawks. We split the armies into 3 groups and had six players total for the game. We played a "Raid" scenario for the French & Indians, and to keep things simple gave the British the opposite objective, "Defend."
The armies we used were:
French & Indians
1 x Regular Officer
8 x Regulars
8 x Grenadiers
1 x Canadian Officer
8 x Compagnies Franches de la Marine
8 x Coureurs de bois
1 x Indian Chief
4 x Indians
4 x Indians
4 x Indians
4 x Indians
British
1 x Regular Officer
8 x Regulars
9 x Regulars
1 x Regular Officer
8 x Regulars
8 x Regulars
1 x Regular Officer
10 x Regulars
8 x Rangers
Now, the only problem with this was, I hadn't actually studied the specific deployment rules for these scenario objectives, and didn't realize that
a) The British were supposed to have to place all of their models first, before any of the French had to deploy
b) the British were only allowed to take 2/3 of their force to begin the game with, and were supposed to roll for reserves throughout the game to get the rest of them.
These two things made a huge impact on the game!
What could have been a pretty balanced game turned out to be a slaughter for the British. They deployed behind walls in the settlement and just sat in firing lines blasting away as we came in. Ahhh!!!
On top of this we pretty much butchered the rules throughout the night, so I didn't think it was a fair depiction of how this game should have played out.
In the end it was a major victory for the British, with the French & Indians unable to get anywhere near their cabins to destroy them...
Pics below. Some of these are courtesy of my friends Kyle and Scott who were taking pictures throughout the night... I think the best shot of the night is Kyle's pic of his Rangers and Regulars looking across the road!
